helping high-achieving millennials identify their career potential and confidently navigate career transitions, even when they don’t know what they want.
Career transitions coaching with Lorna.
Are you waiting for the passage of time to resolve your career issues?
Hoping that clarity or solutions will emerge on their own?
Waiting for the answers doesn’t work.
Take control of your career and move forward with purpose rather than hoping things will resolve themselves.
If you’re a high achieving jaded millennial who feels unfulfilled in your career, and find yourself saying…...
“I don’t feel passionate or fulfilled in my career but I don’t know what I want or how to even work out what I want.”
“I’m open to change – I’m hoping if I keep an open mind the answer will land on my door step.”
“Work ticks a lot of boxes but I have a niggling feeling that won’t go away. I want to find my life purpose.”
“I like the industry I’m in, but I can’t continue working like I am, something needs to change.”
“I don’t know if I don’t like my job or I just don’t like my manager.”
“I’m not sure if I want a career change or whether I’m overworked and just need more balance.”
“I want more balance in my life, but I don’t have any hobbies, work is my fun”.
“When I’m out with friends or on holiday, I have nothing else to talk about but work. This doesn’t feel right.”
Letting time pass won’t resolve things.
Coaching actively addresses underlying issues rather than passively waiting for time or external sources to heal or provide answers.
Ready for clarity, direction and practical steps to finally move forward?
Sure, sounds like me… but do I really need coaching?
High achievers like you usually turn to coaching as a last resort after they’ve waited, tried to work it out for themselves, asked friends and family for advice and maybe even seen a tarot reader. That’s ok, coaching should in many ways be a last resort. Why would you invest in coaching if there are cheaper, less time-consuming alternatives you haven’t exhausted yet?
If you need…
A career change but don’t know what you want.
A career pivot or re-shape (you generally like the industry you’re in, but something needs to change).
Better work/life balance but no idea how to get it.
Clarity on your life purpose (which may or may not feel separate to career).
Coaching is for you.
Why is coaching so effective?
Most of the work in coaching involves bringing the unconscious to the conscious and then making empowered choices to move forward. More specifically, coaching involves:
Explore and expand choice – bring your options into your conscious awareness.
Identify goals and resources – set tangible goals and work out if you need support to meet them.
Change is possible – improve your mindset and open up to possibility.
Blind spots – no matter how much work you do on yourself, you can’t see your own blind spots. There’s real power in having an objective third party reflect back to you.
Limiting beliefs and emotions – identify them and dissolve them (many modalities help you identify them; few help you move through them).
Client has the answers, coach has the questions – when we’re stuck, advice often doesn’t work.
Accountability and support – it makes a big difference knowing someone is there walking alongside you.
Confidence and maintenance – now you know what to do, you may need encouragement to do it and keep on track.
That’s all well and good but how will coaching help me with my career woes?
Coaching can help you:
Identify your career potential (finally work out what you want to do in your career).
Remove limiting beliefs so you realise change is possible.
Set practical action steps to close the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. Whether that’s moving into a new industry, a lateral change or re-shaping your existing working arrangements to better suit your needs.
Increase confidence and motivation so you have the confidence and willpower to follow through with the change you want to make.
Be supported when you hit road blocks (we all know progress isn’t linear) so you don’t panic and think you’ve fallen off track.
Have the tools to disappear off into the sunset and leave me in the dust. Coaching isn’t a crutch. A good coach will help you on your feet and get moving but ultimately send you on your merry way when you’ve figured out what you want, how to get there and got the ball rolling.
On-going support – you may have gone into the sunset but would like ad-hoc or less frequent sessions for support. This is an option. I won’t abandon you.
Ok coaching is effective, so why haven’t I heard about it before? Who else gets coaching?
Mostly the senior folk at your workplace on the leadership track. Just ask your HR team.
Really snazzy workplaces sometimes offer coaching to junior and mid-level employees for work performance and retention. The problem is it’s not usually advertised and you’ll only find out it’s available if something prompts your manager to refer you for coaching following your annual 360 review.
Alright fine, I need coaching, but why you?
Thought you’d never ask.
